I plugged an Audio Technica AT2020 and a Shure SM57 into it's wee pre-amps, hit record, and off I went. Lyrics/words written the night before in my hotel room, on the day I picked a scale/key and went for it. I loved it. A brilliant experience for me. I then dumped it into GarageBand when I got home, then we had another baby (our third, lovely little Oakley Alderman) and I forgot that I had this all recorded.....you know, having a new baby arrive throws everything around eh?! Putting it mildly...... I'm a 'stay at home Dad', the wife (bless her lovely heart, thanks Daley!) gave me a week off, so I flew to Portland with a guitar and a wee 4 track, to do some 'open mics' and relax. And 'Portland' is just that, my time there. I loved Portland, very cool place, it's like England, but, the good bits of England, not the bad, y'know? All in one place. Fantastic. Being the main carer for our children is really hard work, the hardest job I've ever had. You get cut off from your friends (especially when you move overseas.....) and you're on your own basically. So, getting this present of a week off, was gold (Gold Jerry! Gold!!) and I was inspired. Portland's ace, I can't tell you all the great stuff about the place, particularly if you're a musician and/or a fan of good music. Even 'cdbaby' hails from here, which is the independent musicians provider and protector. Anyways, I was looking to make a slightly different record. My first three (Bartender Tales was being recorded at this time, and 'Some Chick' was recorded here, at an open mic night, Sunday, at The White Eagle) records led on from and to each other, I wanted to give myself a wee jolt. So, made in 3hrs, on the spot at Suburbia Rehearsal Studios, with my acoustic guitar, a Zoom H4n and Mikes Gibson Flying V and Marshall stack (cheers Mike...!!) here it is, 'Portland'.

The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday because for many retailers it was the day they went from being in the red to being in the black when they became profitable for the year. It is also the official beginning of the holiday shopping season, and Black Friday has become known for some of the best bargains, discounts and deals of the entire year! Everyone has watched stampeding crowds on the local news or diehard bargain hunters camping out overnight so they can be among the first to grab limited black friday specials at their favorite local retailers... However, if you prefer doing your holiday discount shopping from the warm and cozy comfort of home, then Cyber Monday was designed with you in mind! Online retailers spotted the Black Friday frenzy sweeping across the country as it took over brick and mortar locations - rather than compete for your black friday attention, they concocted a day that is all their own and named it Cyber Monday! The Monday after Thanksgiving is when your favorite online stores slash prices and offer their very best prices to help usher in the online holiday shopping season! That means big savings for you whether you choose to brave the local crowds on Black Friday or avoid the madness by browsing online during Cyber Monday Sales! Not to worry - the Friday and Monday after Thanksgiving might get the most attention for discount holiday shopping, but if you procrastinate beyond that magical bargain hunting window it doesn't mean you will be completely left out... In fact, this promises to be an exceptionally consumer-friendly holiday shopping season with sales, coupons and discounts extending far beyond Black Friday and Cyber Monday and allowing you to find the best prices on holiday gifts until the very last minute! Hoping to avoid discount shopping withdrawal? Even after Christmas and Hanukkah have come and gone, you'll still have After Holiday Specials to help usher in the New Year!
