Nine original songs and two covers speak to change, loss, joy and redemption. In the folk tradition, Sue takes on social issues: the drug related violence in Mexico with "Angelitos - Little Angels", and the effects of the 2010 BP Gulf oil spill with "Black Water" - a winner in the 2012 Discoveries Playlist Competition. Sue's clear pure vocals and stellar production make the tracks shine. Recorded and co-produced by Bradley Kopp at The Ranch in Buda, TX, the album features outstanding support by Austin talent Richard Bowden, Javier Chaparro, Joel Guzman, Lloyd Maines, Glenn Fukunaga, Roscoe Beck and Bradley Kopp. Sue received a 2013 Texas Music Awards nomination for Female Vocalist Of The Year for 'Gliding'. 'strong catchy melodies ... Sue has got a fantastic clean voice... and it is a pleasure to listen to Sue's melodic calm acoustic pop/rock. Definitely a great singer/songwriter who you should see live on stage.' --Strutterzine, 'Also among sophisticated feats of songwriting we rank the dreamy title track and 'Further Down The Road,' (not to be confused with the almost same blues song) with wonderful inimitable dobro player Lloyd Maines is a bluegrass gem. Young also explores bluesy jazz paths' Future One and Only ' and 'I Got Plenty', compelling piano ballads (Guzman) and Glenn Fukunaga's soothing bass. That instrument is absolutely at the forefront as the only tool to 'Ship Of Safety ', the tranquil end to a fine full-length of a fine and talented lady.' - Keys And Chords I love 'Gliding'.... what a lovely record! I'm really enjoying getting to know it and will be playing lots more from it in the weeks/months to come.' -- Mark Michaelis, Acoustic Harmony - WGDR FM **** 'Often close to Tish Hinojosa in the way she expresses herself and therefore essential for people who appreciate the sensitive and beautiful. The jazz inspired 'Future One And Only', Latino flavoured 'La Guitarra' and Americana and country influenced songs like the title track, 'Black Water', 'String of Pearls' and 'Further Down The Road' marks Young's musical breadth on an album that quickly becomes a pleasure [to listen to].' -- Bj rn Bostrand, Popgeni Sue Young got her start in the clubs and coffehouses of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico, as well as a stint in Ecuador. Lured by the vibrant Austin singer songwriter scene, she moved to the capital of Texas in 1985. She wound up going in some unanticipated directions - she developed a career as a bilingual children's entertainer and she also began focusing on writing and playing for spiritual venues. She released 2 albums of inspirational music - 'From The Mother - Songs of the Sacred Feminine' in 1998 and 'River Of Life' 2003, and a children's CD 'Legend Of The Quetzal - Tales And Tunes Of Latin America' in 2007. Sue is currently working on a duo album with songwriter Rusty Nelson. |
