He later played for 9 years with Blues Legend James Montgomery Scott moved to LA and played for a while in a band with Ginger Baker (and the rest of the band were also rock legends) A brief stint with his songwriting hero Warren Zevon He won a Dove award in 1996 for Country Recorded Song of the Year 'Without You I Haven't Got A Prayer' CD review by Johnny Press (legendary New England Guitarist) Scott Rath-Seth Pappas Skunky Rooster-Buskers' Blusterade produced by Scott Rath & Seth Pappas 13 songs-Grapes of Rath music Let me be upfront here. I know Scott Rath..well. He is my friend. If I never met Scott before and I heard this CD, I would want to meet him badly. Why???Well because this CD is pure genius. Raw ripping emotional energy. Lyrics that touch the darkest parts of our soul. This is the kind of CD, the intellectual press loved in the 70's and 80's. I can hear influences of Dylan, Zevon, Petty, The Kinks, The Who, The Beatles, Stones and more, yet it is a very unique CD. The CD starts with a beauty, Cross the Great Divide. An almost perfect tune from the opening Chord to the last note, highlighted by an incredible solo that Rusty Young would be proud of. The next tune, Stand Strong, should be the anthem of Boston. This is such a strong tune. The ending alone,which is throwback to the Who and early Hendrix, is worth the price of the CD My favorite song, Somewhere between Lost and Found, is a classic. Very much in the vein of Tom Petty, but with blistering lyrics and a Monster guitar solo. There are 13 songs ( you get your money worth) and I can't find one weak song. There are even two instrumentals that will have you bouncing up and down in your vehicle. Oh did I mentioned that this CD sounds incredible at high volume. The song most people will be talking about will more than likely be The Lie, an absolutely painfully true, heartbreaking song dwelling on anger and human anguish done as well as I have ever heard. You will realize very quickly that Scott Rath is a monster songwriter. You will also realize that Scott and Seth have the kind feel of two men who have played together for years. The Drumming on the CD couldn't be more perfect. In the pocket perfectly on every song and makes the whole CD groove. Yes I am unabashedly a fan of Scott, Seth and their com-padre David Hull. They have put together a CD that would have sold Platinum in the past..now I only wish that word of mouth makes it a legendary piece of work. These songs should be scooped up by major artists . Skunky Rooster-Buskers' Blusterade is a CD made without a lot of effects. It's very Raw..but thats what makes it beautiful |
