RICK VANDIVIER - SPIRIT OF THE ROOM
	• Manufacturer: CD • Manufacturer Part Number: CDBY 220585 • SKU: 9549765 • UPC: 769342310320 • Shipping: $1.13 • Description: What do you get when Rick Vandivier (guitar), John Stowell (guitar), George Marsh (drums) and Bob Johnson (sax), each a leader in his own right, come together to record a CD? A musical experience that's good for what ails you. The Vandivier * Stowell * Marsh * project presents a fresh sound based on the interweaving of guitar melody, harmonic color and rhythmic interplay. We're talking soul food for the world weary in the sheer beauty of the sound of the band. Now add to that the exhilaration of witnessing a composition improvised into existence for the first and only time. Or relish the delight of hearing the works of the American masters, like Monk and Miles, crafted to bring their creations into the 21st century with further innovation and vitality. The heart is likely to beat a little quicker from the emotion, and dare I say, romance imbued in the music. The flash of bright ideas can spark the intellect and enliven the spirit. Give a listen soon. (Possible side effects include residual smiling, sensations of warmth around the heart, and renewed interest in life) The arrangements on Spirit of the Room illustrate how the modern and the traditional, the concrete and the abstract can be combined to create new and unique musical textures. Rick Vandivier (heard predominately in the left channel) performs on the electric archtop and steel string acoustic guitars. Rick's playing, although steeped in the traditions of jazz and blues, also displays a thoroughly modern aesthetic. He is known for his ability to weave a colorful harmonic fabric from multiple melodic voices and can be recognized by his smooth attack and warm tone. John Stowell uses both the electric nylon string guitar and the electric archtop. His playing (heard in the right channel) is angular in its quickly shifting melodies, use of wide melodic intervals contrasting with close-voiced chords and 'Monkish' rhythmic punches. George Marsh coaxes an impressive array of timbres from his minimalistic kit (consisting of snare, hi-hat and ride cymbals,) and Bob Johnson presents a unique voice and intuitive musical sensibility in his tasteful sax playing.

The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday because for many retailers it was the day they went from being in the red to being in the black when they became profitable for the year. It is also the official beginning of the holiday shopping season, and Black Friday has become known for some of the best bargains, discounts and deals of the entire year! Everyone has watched stampeding crowds on the local news or diehard bargain hunters camping out overnight so they can be among the first to grab limited black friday specials at their favorite local retailers... However, if you prefer doing your holiday discount shopping from the warm and cozy comfort of home, then Cyber Monday was designed with you in mind! Online retailers spotted the Black Friday frenzy sweeping across the country as it took over brick and mortar locations - rather than compete for your black friday attention, they concocted a day that is all their own and named it Cyber Monday! The Monday after Thanksgiving is when your favorite online stores slash prices and offer their very best prices to help usher in the online holiday shopping season! That means big savings for you whether you choose to brave the local crowds on Black Friday or avoid the madness by browsing online during Cyber Monday Sales! Not to worry - the Friday and Monday after Thanksgiving might get the most attention for discount holiday shopping, but if you procrastinate beyond that magical bargain hunting window it doesn't mean you will be completely left out... In fact, this promises to be an exceptionally consumer-friendly holiday shopping season with sales, coupons and discounts extending far beyond Black Friday and Cyber Monday and allowing you to find the best prices on holiday gifts until the very last minute! Hoping to avoid discount shopping withdrawal? Even after Christmas and Hanukkah have come and gone, you'll still have After Holiday Specials to help usher in the New Year!
