Mastered by Damon Tedesco, Mobile Disc Music Inc. Here's the story of how Olio made the 'Comeback Kings' EP with Eddie Kramer producing... The last weekend in January of 2012 was a landmark moment in Olio history. We had the great honor and privilege of recording with legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer (Hendrix/Led Zeppelin/Santana/Rolling Stones/Robert Randolph/Grace Potter/Kiss/Peter Frampton) at LMU recording studios. After the incredible experience of recording 'Hello/Goodbye' we discussed recording more songs with him. We were thrilled when he said yes. We agreed that we would start with a 4 song EP that he would produce. In February we sent him some demos of new songs and he started narrowing down the ones he really liked. In the middle of the checking out our demos, Eddie called me one night and asked if anyone in the band played piano. He wanted to hear a ballad centered around the piano with kind of a Paul McCartney vibe. Naturally, I did what any inspired artist would do. I hung up the phone, kissed my wife good night and wrote a ballad on piano until the early hours of the morning. I had written a song for my daughter, 'Completely Beautiful,' and one for my son, 'Bring Baby Home,' and it was long overdue to write something special for the love of my life, my wife. I worked up the main hook centered around the lyric 'More Than That.' I came up with the nuts and bolts of the song that night. A couple days later the guys came over and we worked out some other sections. We sent a rough recording to Eddie and he liked it and thought it had a lot of potential. In early March, Eddie and I got together at my house one afternoon to work on the song some more. That was a really fun day! After a few revisions we really nailed the song. I'm so proud it. Eddie was getting ready to leave in April for a Mix With The Masters session at La Fabrique Studios in Saint R my de Provence, France so time was tight. His schedule was filling up quickly and we needed to get going on the recordings before he left. The last two weeks of March were set aside to record 4 songs for our new EP. Eddie hooked us up with one of the best rooms to record drums in - EastWest Studios in Hollywood. This studio is legendary. Formerly known as United/Western Recorders, it was producing some of the biggest pop hits of the 60's. The first session recorded here in Studio 1 was Petula Clark's number one hit "My Love.' Elvis Presley revived his career here with his 1968 Comeback Special. Frank Sinatra recorded such hits as "My Way", "That's Life", "Strangers In The Night" and "The Lady Is a Tramp", along with "Somethin' Stupid" - the famed duet with his daughter Nancy. The Beach Boys ushered in a new sound... |
