JUST IN!...Stunning Reviews are coming in daily..check out what the critics are saying here "Freeman's first solo vocal album, and it is an impressive collection... that offers Freeman a chance to show off her jazz chops, as well as making you understand that a straight ballad reading is also right up her alley. May this be the first of many discs from Mickey Freeman." New Jersey Jazz Society "I don't know who decided to start this CD out with a duet bass 'n voice intro soon letting onto brushed drums in the first cut, I've Got the World on a String, but, whoever it was, give that sage a raise 'cause it perfectly lays naked a concurrent frailness and confidence in Mickey Freeman's voice. That first part is just beautiful. By the time the cut winds down, you're fully ready to devour the rest of Livin' the Dream...What most distinguishes this release, though, is the combination of Freeman's gorgeous tone and her upbeat, warm, sweet musical personality.. Not a single flaw exists in the recording or performances, and I doubt you're going to settle for a single listen, 'cause I sure ain't." by Mark S. Tucker Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange "Mickey's voice is simply delightful. Tones and inflection are correct and she puts her heart into these dozen standards making them special and a pleasure to listen to.... Relax and enjoy it." By Oscar Groomes O's Place Jazz Newsletter " Produced by ace guitarist Duke Robillard, the session surrounds Freeman's solid voice with little-performed standards, jazz tunes and blues opuses. ..Throughout, she exhibits an innate sense of swing and taste.." by Eric Feber, The Pilot "Freeman's traditional approach to these 12 romantic tunes leaves little question about where her preferences as a singer lie. She's a master at swinging the blues and jazz ballads ...Her understanding of these melodies is conventional but informed and listening to Freeman's take on them is like meeting up with an old friend - warm, familiar, comforting. One other telling thing: producers Robillard and Jesse Finkelstein will make a donation to one of their sponsored charities for each CD sold. Good music, good intentions. You can't go wrong here." By Suzanne Lorge New York City Jazz Record Mickey freeman is a seasoned jazz vocalist of the highest order. Her improvisational skills are impressive and her mature swinging style makes her a breath of fresh air among contemporary female vocalists. Her debut solo CD is full of time proven standards and and rare gems that show her full potential as a jazz vocalist. Superior sound quality and imaginative backing from Paul Nagel on Piano, Marty Ballou on acoustic bass and Mark Teixeira on drums make this an impressive debut CD. Tenor sax classic jazz icon Scott Hamilton is featured on 3 tracks and Duke Robillard's guitar and Wendy Klein's flute on others lend just the right touch of spice to the program. |
