HOUSTON PRESS: 'The best electronic album to come out of Texas since Morningstar.... like a synthpop version of The Wall. POP MATTERS: 'The nonexistent Nintendo game that would have made your childhood.' INDIE MP3.COM: 'Infectious fun from start to finish.' BABYSUE LMNOP: 'Unashamedly sweet and catchy album full of totally upbeat pop tracks...Instantly appealing.' www. LMNOP.com, www.babysue.com, www. dONW7.com FULL REVIEWS: Early Eurythmics meets Josie and the Pussycats! Drum machines and resonant analog squirts form the basis of this duo's unapologetic anthems to the golden age of electropop. "Girl Boy Pop Toy" even admonishes "synthesizer haters" to come to a gig and be converted. The vibe is all about having too much fun to care if you look like a dork, and if you're too cool for that, the joke's on you. -Stephen Fortner/Keyboard Magazine June 2010 There's nothing like this cartoon automaton symphony on any station, including Jack FM...It'll be hard to suppress a smile listening to "Chop Shop Cop," the should-be theme song to the most awesomely ridiculous non-existent police show ever. "Serial number instead of a name," Jess croons over a beat that's industrial in the same way the Village Person in the hardhat was a construction worker. "Supermarket Casanova" (sample line: "It's boys like you who give checkout lines a new meaning ... there's a clean-up on aisle three") is equally laughable. Though Hyperbubble's music seems designed to double-dog dare you to take the band seriously, it's not fair to call them a novelty act. Songs like "Teddy Bear Crime Wave," UFO Beach Party," and "Moogzilla vs. Korgatron" are purposefully light and juvenile, undercut by wackiness, and designed to move your feet, but they're also subtly intricate, expertly produced, and fun as hell. In Hyperbubble world, the first step to any dance is getting over yourself. -Jeremy Martin / Current Magazine Feb 2010 As always, Hyperbubble brings the fun and the synthesizers while crafting clever dance pop. Even people who can't dance can be captivated by "Girl Boy Pop Toy," "Teddy Bear Crime Wave" and "U.F.O. Beach Party." -Jim Beal Jr./Weekender Magazine Feb 2010 From the look and sound of this package...we'd be willing to bet that the folks in this band are enjoying the hell out of themselves at this point in time. And it sure looks and sounds as if they're mainly in it for fun...which is, of course, the best motivation in the world. Candy Apple Daydreams is an unashamedly sweet and catchy album full of totally upbeat pop tracks that should be instantly appealing to children, teenagers, and... |
