The community is located about 3miles away from the town of Chichicastenango, but the road to townis not paved and access to the village becomes difficult during therainy season. The families of the community are very poor, but thewomen know the ancestral art of weaving and use it as asupplemental income to provide a better life for their children. In2001, eight Chucam families banded together to form a weavingcooperative to make beautiful patchwork quilts and otherembroidered textiles. Their incomes have doubled if not tripled,and dozens of additional Chucam families have become involved. Moreimportantly, the men don't have to leave for months at a timelooking for work in the sugar cane fields and many more of thevillage?s children are able to stay in school. What is Worldstock?
