We are VERY excited to have received nominations in FOUR categories this year! Donny and Susan Trexler The full title of Donny and Susan Trexler's new CD is "So meet me at the Edge of Paradise." It says "The Edge of Paradise" at the top of the CD envelope, but the full title is below on a message in a bottle in the sand. It's a subtle clue as to what you'll find inside. Love letters written in the sand are temporary and ethereal. A love letter on a message in a bottle is similar but with one important difference. Although the tides can cover and hide the invitation to love inside, it can be recovered, retrieved, resurrected by the unpredictable forces of nature. Donny and Susan's "...Edge of Paradise" presents fourteen faces of those forces beginning with Susan's invitation to "Take Me To Paradise." The Edge of Paradise is also the edge of the unknown. At the edges of the sea are the great beach resorts of the world-and where the unknown depths of the sea begins. It's the place where the sunshine and trade winds can float you away on days and nights of play and re-creation. And it's the place where great hurricanes can roar through irresistably, leaving behind massive changes in the landscape. Susan sings how the forces of love have wrought similar changes in "Fever," "Soon As I Touched Him," and "Memories and Souvenirs." Reflection is also a powerful force at the edge. Donny and Susan take full advantage of it's powers to reassess relationships in "Inventory on Heartaches," and Donny's serio-comic "Make Time For Me," and "Tired of Pulling This Train." Donny's courage and boldness shine on two instrumentals here. Playing an instrumental is like a slow Shag; it's fun but everyone can see every single step (or misstep). Intrumentals are usually best played by musical virtuosos as Donny amply demonstrates. Of the two, "Begin the Beguine" was the number one song on the Beach Music Top 40 Countdown for 2007. His first band was formed when he was 14 and was called 'Donny and the Blue Jets.' In early 1959 his group, 'The Six Teens,' began and evolved into 'Bob Collins and the Fabulous Five' in 1961. This group went on to become one of the hottest beach bands in the Southeast in the middle and late 60's.
