And Also The Trees - Virus Meadow
	• SKU: 5324143 • UPC: 4011760619025 • Shipping: $1.18 • Description: For their second full album, the Trees developed an even more arty approach than before, establishing what would become their basic sound for a number of years to come. Stripping down the instrumentation on most of the songs to a dark rhythm drive from Burrows and Havas, Justin Jones here concentrates on a series of electric guitar parts which combine the liquid touches of flange effects and folky runs on the frets, avoiding crunch in favor of delicacy, to create marvelously evocative musical shadings, rich in atmosphere. Along with Simon Jones' sometimes extravagant lyrical images of an older, more rustic and mystic time, with hints of Wordsworth's early Romantic poetry throughout - "The Headless Clay Woman" and "The Dwelling Place" give a hint as the at once nostalgic and dramatic direction - it gives Meadow a unique flavor for Eighties British rock. While some of the Trees' aesthetic may spring from the same creative well as a number of moodier British folk-based artists from earlier days - some of Nick Drake's more metaphoric numbers sprung to mind - the goth-tinged feel of the music makes Meadow all the more distinct. One could easily imagine it soundtracking an adaptation of Wuthering Heights, if not something even older. Some numbers, like "Vincent Craine," have a more conventional rock approach, but this is counterbalanced by the album's highlight, "Gone...Like the Swallows," a richly textured, powerful song featuring all the band members at their best. ~ Ned Raggett

The day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday because for many retailers it was the day they went from being in the red to being in the black when they became profitable for the year. It is also the official beginning of the holiday shopping season, and Black Friday has become known for some of the best bargains, discounts and deals of the entire year! Everyone has watched stampeding crowds on the local news or diehard bargain hunters camping out overnight so they can be among the first to grab limited black friday specials at their favorite local retailers... However, if you prefer doing your holiday discount shopping from the warm and cozy comfort of home, then Cyber Monday was designed with you in mind! Online retailers spotted the Black Friday frenzy sweeping across the country as it took over brick and mortar locations - rather than compete for your black friday attention, they concocted a day that is all their own and named it Cyber Monday! The Monday after Thanksgiving is when your favorite online stores slash prices and offer their very best prices to help usher in the online holiday shopping season! That means big savings for you whether you choose to brave the local crowds on Black Friday or avoid the madness by browsing online during Cyber Monday Sales! Not to worry - the Friday and Monday after Thanksgiving might get the most attention for discount holiday shopping, but if you procrastinate beyond that magical bargain hunting window it doesn't mean you will be completely left out... In fact, this promises to be an exceptionally consumer-friendly holiday shopping season with sales, coupons and discounts extending far beyond Black Friday and Cyber Monday and allowing you to find the best prices on holiday gifts until the very last minute! Hoping to avoid discount shopping withdrawal? Even after Christmas and Hanukkah have come and gone, you'll still have After Holiday Specials to help usher in the New Year!
